Sports & PE Grant

Government Statement on PE & Sports Grant

The government is providing additional funding of £150 million per annum to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding - provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport - will be allocated to primary school head teachers.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision of PE and sport in schools. Funding for schools will be calculated by reference to the number of primary-aged pupils (between the ages of 5 and 11), as recorded in the annual schools census in January.

Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.

Schools are held accountable for the decisions they make through:

  • Including details of their provision of PE and sport on their website.
  • The Ofsted inspection framework will be updated, "so that schools and inspectors know how sport and PE will be assessed in future as part of the school's overall provision".
  • All schools will receive a lump sum of £8,000 plus a premium of £5 per pupil for the next two academic years.

What our Pupils say....

Danny is always teaching us lots about different things and I can now play a lot of sports. He stops the play when something goes wrong and helps us learn from our mistakes!
Danny is a great coach because he always makes sports fun. We do netball, football, tag rugby, basketball and many other sports!
I enjoy Danny's P.E sessions because he doesn't stand on the side, he always joins in. We have really fun lessons and he makes us all laugh. I always enjoy his lessons.
